COVID-19 Update: July 3

To our members and the community:

First Basin Credit Union is committed to doing our part to keep employees & those around us safe & healthy. We stand with the Governor Abbott’s mask mandate, so we can all help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Effective immediately:

  • Masks are required to enter any First Basin lobby. This applies to our staff, members or any guest.
  • We advise to maintain 6 feet of separation from others while in the lobby to support social distancing.
  • First Basin encourages washing your hands, or the use of hand sanitizer that is provided in the lobby, when touching any high-traffic service area (pens, deposit slips, counter tops, etc.)
  • As in any situation, it is recommended not to touch your face, eyes, nose or mouth while in a public area.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

First Basin Credit Union – your partner in every aspect of life.

A message from Shem Culpepper, CEO:

To all our valued members at First Basin Credit Union:

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most disruptive crises of a lifetime. From the beginning of the impact, First Basin, as an essential business, made a commitment to provide uninterrupted financial services, including limited open lobbies. While doing so, our priority was to ensure the safety and health of our staff, their families, and the communities we serve.

On March 24, 2020, in an effort to remain open while also providing protection to all concerned, First Basin implemented a modified schedule of operations, whereby each branch and department were divided into separate teams. The teams were then scheduled and geographically located so that through physical social distancing techniques, the teams remained separated at all times. The purpose of course was to allow for First Basin’s compliance with the CDC’s exposure and quarantine guidance. In the event of a team member’s contraction of COVID-19 and the subsequent quarantine of anyone that worked in close proximity of that team member, the separated team would be available to provide essential services.

First Basin employees were also asked to avoid contact with co-workers from the other team after hours, and to practice safe, social distancing while not working. To further reduce exposure, First Basin provided lunch to all employees at all locations so no one had to leave the office during the work day.

We continue to closely monitor the manner in which the COVID-19 pandemic evolves and make decisions based on the recommendations from the President of the United States and Governor of Texas as well as our own unique circumstances. Governor Abbot announced at his April 27, 2020 news conference that Texas’ stay-at-home order will expire on Thursday, April 30, 2020. As Governor Abbott progresses forward to reopen the State of Texas, it is with much thought and consideration that First Basin, too, will take the necessary steps to return to regular operations at all branches effective Monday, May 4, 2020.

We fully comprehend the need to proceed forward with precautionary measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19.  We will continue to monitor staff daily and require each employee have their temperature taken before beginning the work day. Social distancing will remain a priority and we will ensure all of our branches are cleaned and sanitized each day.

While the world may be different now, the values that define First Basin Credit Union remain unchanged. We are committed, now more than ever, to provide the first-rate service you have come to expect from us.

Rest-assured, we will continue to face this challenge head-on until it is simply another obstacle, we as a community, have overcome.

Most sincerely,

Shem Culpepper
