Community Service: It’s Who We Are and What We Do.

Community Service: It’s Who We Are and What We Do.

Pride. It is what we feel every day when we help the people of the Permian Basin get access to the financial services they need. It is in the flipping of the “open” sign on a new business. Or the sound of boxes being flattened as a family unpacks into their new home. It is the satisfaction of depositing that first paycheck from a new job.

Being an integral part of the community is in the DNA of a credit union. They were founded on the idea that by working together, people can make their community stronger. When banks were not an option, like-minded people turned to each other to invest in their families and neighborhoods; growing stronger together. While the services and membership criteria have changed over the years, being deeply invested in the community continues to be part of a credit union’s DNA. That is evident for us every day at First Basin Credit Union. With each loan, checking account and CD, we are strengthening our local community by giving people access to the capital they need.

But, we see it in other ways too. Like in our ongoing commitment to community service. Year after year, we take an active role in Food2Kids, Meals on Wheels, United Way and the Permian Basin Rehab Center. You will see our crew at fund-raising bbqs, golf tournaments and 5Ks giving their time and energy to support local causes that make the Permian Basin a community we can all be proud of.

And, when it comes to giving back, we love to do that too. Since January of 2015 we have volunteered time and money to more than 35 organizations in Odessa, Midland and Andrews. This fall First Basin Credit Union donated $24,000 to local charities that are near and dear to our communities including Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center, Community Children’s Clinic, The San Jacinto Jr. High PTA and the Permian Basin Fair Scholarship Fund.

So, when we were notified by the Permian Basin Chapter of Fund Raising Professionals that we are being recognized as the 2015 Outstanding Philanthropic Business, we couldn’t have been more proud. In recent years, this award has been given to Concho Resources, The Kent Companies and Sewell Family of Dealerships. We are proud that our efforts are being recognized in such great company.

We are also proud because this award isn’t just about those of us here in the offices everyday. It’s about ALL of our members, and about ALL of the good we collectively do to keep the vital energy coursing through our towns. It is with your spirit that we support the causes we do. We humbly share this award with all our members.

Because when the community works together, great things are possible.
